Collection Boxes (Conductor Heads)

Collection Boxes (Conductor Heads)

Decorative yet functional boxes that catch water from your gutters or roof scuppers and funnel it into the downspouts. Our collection boxes are custom-made in various styles (from simple heads to ornate designs) and can add an elegant accent to your building’s exterior. They also help ventilate the downspout to prevent gurgling and “vacuum lock” in the gutter line.

Commercial Gutters

Commercial Gutters

Robust gutter systems designed for high volume runoff, typical in commercial or larger residential buildings. We fabricate custom box gutters and other profiles in 5″, 6″, or larger sizes to meet your drainage requirements. Made from heavy-gauge metals (usually 24-ga steel or .032" aluminum), our gutters efficiently channel water from the roof while withstanding Utah’s snow loads and sun exposure. They can be made in long lengths for fewer seams (standard sections up to 21’ long).

Downspouts

Downspouts

The vertical pipes that carry water from the gutters down to the ground or drainage system. We produce downspouts in various shapes (round or rectangular) and sizes. Standard sizes range from 3″×3″ square up to much larger dimensions for commercial needs. Our downspouts are custom-fabricated to match your gutter style and can include features like clean-out boxes or elbows. They are crafted from durable metals (steel, aluminum, etc.) and can be color matched to your building.

Collection Boxes (Collector Heads)

Collection boxes (also known as conductor heads or leader heads) are typically mounted at the top of downspouts, just below the gutter or roof edge. Theycollect waterfrom either an outlet in the gutter or an open roof scupper anddirect it into the downspout. Beyond their utility, they serve as an architectural detail on many buildings.

Specifications

Styles & Sizes

We can fabricate any style – from simple square boxes to more intricate tapered or flared designs. Standard collector boxes might be around8–12″ wideand6–12″ tall, but we will build to whatever dimensions complement your building and handle the water flow. If you have decorative preferences (such as beveled edges, integrated motifs, etc.), we accommodate that in the design.

Material Options

Commonly made from24-ga painted steel(matching the gutter color) or0.032″ aluminum. For a high-end look, we also craft them incopperorstainless steel. Copper collector boxes are popular for classic aesthetics – they will patina beautifully and last virtually forever. All our collection boxes are fully soldered or welded for leak-proof construction, especially if metal like copper is used.

Mounting & Outlets

Collection boxes usually attach to the wall and connect between a gutter and a downspout. We will configure the outlet size and location to mate with your downspout (for example, a 3″ round outlet centered at the bottom). We can also include an overflow scupper or multiple outlets if needed for very large roofs. Mounting brackets or flanges can be built-in to ensure the box is securely fastened to the structure.

Features

Our designs ensure that the collection box not only funnels water but also allows air into the downspout system. Thisprevents siphoning and gurglingby breaking any vacuum – improving drainage efficiency. Each box has a sloped bottom toward the outlet to fully drain water. Screens can be added on top openings to catch large debris. We also pay attention to aesthetics: seams are neatly joined, and proportioning is done so that the box looks balanced on the building facade.

Commercial Gutters

For larger roofs or commercial buildings, commercial gutters (often in a “box gutter” style or oversized fascia gutter) are required to handle the high volume of water. We custom fabricate these gutters to ensure they meet the capacity needs and architectural requirements of the project.

Specifications

Profiles & Dimensions

We offer box gutters in standard sizes like 5-inch and 6-inch (these refer to the gutter opening width) – these are common for many commercial applications. However, we can make gutters even larger (7″, 8″, etc.) if the roof area demands it. The profile (shape of the gutter cross-section) can be square, rectangular, or with custom contours (for example, adding a decorative lip or flanges). If the building has built-in gutters or specific needs, we’ll fabricate liners or custom shapes accordingly.

 Materials

24-gauge Kynar-coated steel is frequently used for its strength and finish options. We also use 0.032″ or 0.040″ aluminum for large gutters due to its lighter weight and corrosion resistance. Copper is another option for traditional or high-end projects – a copper gutter system is both functional and visually striking. All metal seams (for box miter corners, end caps, etc.) are riveted and sealed, or soldered for copper, to ensure watertight performance.

Lengths

Our equipment allows us to make gutter sections in lengths up to 20–21 feet. Longer sections mean fewer joints and thus lower chance of leaks. On-site, sections are joined with rivets and sealant or welded (in the case of steel/aluminum) to create continuous runs along the roof edge. We design the joint locations and provide matching splice plates if needed.

Hangers & Installation

We will coordinate the appropriate hanging system for your gutters. For commercial gutters, hidden strap hangers or bracket-and-rod hangers are common. We can fabricate custom heavy-duty hangers that handle snow loads and keep the gutter securely attached. Downspout outlets will be placed per the drainage plan – we punch or cut outlet holes to size and include outlet tubes if requested. Everything is custom, so if you need the gutter to integrate with a specific roof edge detail or a parapet, we will adapt the design to suit.

Downspouts

Downspouts are the vertical pipes that carry rainwater from the gutters down to ground level or the storm drainage. We provide matching downspouts for any gutter system – ensuring consistent look and proper fit.

Specifications

Shapes & Sizes

We commonly fabricaterectangular downspoutsin sizes like3″×3″, 3″×4″, 4″×5″, etc., andround downspoutsin diameters like3″, 4″, 6″and beyond. The choice often depends on the building style and water capacity needed. For example, a 6″ half-round gutter might use a 4″ round downspout; a large commercial box gutter might use dual 4″×5″ rectangular downspouts for very high volume. We’ll calculate or advise on the appropriate size based on roof area and rainfall.

Materials

Downspouts are available in the same materials as the gutters for a uniform system. That means painted steel (24 ga) or aluminum (typically 0.024″ to 0.040″ thickness for strength) are common. We also do copper downspouts (often in 3″ or 4″ round corrugated style, or smooth round) for upscale installations. All downspout seams (if rectangular) are either lock-formed or welded depending on the look – e.g., we can make a smooth-face rectangular downspout with a rear seam for a cleaner appearance.

Section Lengths

Standard downspout sections are 10’ long, but we’ll cut to whatever lengths are needed to minimize joints (for instance, if you have a 14’ run, we might do one 10’ and one 4’ section). We also fabricate all theaccessories: elbows (e.g., 30°, 45°, 75° angles), offsets, transitions (if changing shape/size), and even custom boots at the bottom if needed. For example, we can create a flared diffuser at the bottom or a cleanout trap if that’s requested.

Attachment

We will provide or fabricatedownspout strapsthat match the material and color. Typically, straps are made from the same metal and are about 1″ to 1.5″ wide, secured to the wall with appropriate fasteners. For aesthetics, we often place straps at the joints between sections (which conceals the seam and secures both sections). On taller runs, additional straps are added to ensure stability. All holes (for outlets or for cleanouts) are cut cleanly and we can roll the edges or add a collar, giving a finished look even to functional cutouts.

PROJECTS

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of a collector box in a gutter system?

A collector box (or conductor head) serves a couple of purposes. First, it acts as a catch basin at the top of a downspout – water from the gutter (or a roof scupper) flows into the collector box, and then down into the spout. This can help regulate the flow and reduce surging water, especially during heavy rain. Second, it introduces air into the downspout which helps prevent a vacuum lock and gurgling noises in the downspout. Essentially, it lets the drainage system breathe. Lastly, collector boxes are often used as an architectural accent; they can be quite decorative and enhance the facade. They’re not strictly “required” for functionality in every case, but they are very beneficial for both performance and appearance in many gutter setups.

My building has a very large roof. Can you make gutters that handle a lot of water?

Yes – we specialize in custom, high-capacity gutters. We can fabricate gutters larger than the standard store-bought sizes to ensure they can handle the runoff from a big roof. For example, we commonly do 6-inch box gutters and can go up to 7″, 8″ or larger custom profiles as needed. We also make sure to pair them with adequately sized downspouts (or multiple downspouts) to drain the water efficiently. If you’re unsure what size you need, we can calculate based on your roof area and local rainfall data. The bottom line: no roof is too large – we’ll build a gutter system that keeps up with the water flow.

Do you offer these products in different colors or metals to match my project?

Absolutely. All of our gutter, downspout, and collector box fabrications can be done in the material and finish of your choice. We stock pre-finished steel and aluminum in many colors (Kynar 500® finishes) to match common trim and roofing colors. We can also special order specific colors if needed. If you prefer the look of natural metal, we can do mill finish aluminum, stainless steel, or copper. For example, some clients love copper gutters and downspouts for the classic look – we can accommodate that. We’ve also done combinations (like copper collector boxes with matching copper accents, and painted downspouts to blend with walls). Just let us know your aesthetic goals; we’ll make it happen with the right material and finish.

How are your gutters installed – do they come with everything needed?

Our gutters will be made to the specified lengths and profiles and will include the essential accessories. We provide end caps, outlet tubes, hangers, and splice plates/corners as part of a gutter system order. If we fabricate the gutters, we’ll either fabricate or supply the hanger brackets or straps that support them. We also make the downspout outlets in the gutter (or can leave cut-outs for installation on site if preferred). In most cases, a roofing or gutter contractor will handle the installation using these components. We ensure that when you receive our gutter system, you have all the custom pieces required to install it properly – except for sealant and screws, which are typically provided by the installer. If you need guidance on installation or want us to coordinate installation (in some cases we do install or work with installers), we can discuss that too.

Can you fabricate downspouts that aren’t the usual round or rectangular shape?

We sure can. While round and rectangular are most common, we have the capability to create custom sectional shapes. For instance, some historical buildings have fancy fluted downspouts or a unique spiral design – those can be custom made. We’ve also done triangular downspouts to fit in corner building recesses, and custom curved elbows to navigate around architectural features. If you have an idea or need for a non-standard shape, our team will analyze it and come up with a fabrication method. Sometimes we’ll create a special jig or break the spout into welded segments to achieve the shape. It might cost a bit more than standard pieces, but if the design calls for it, we’re up to the challenge. Don’t hesitate to ask about custom downspout designs.
